7/25/2023 0 Comments History of mosh pitsGlasgow crowds are notoriously rowdy (but also respectful). First Arctic Monkeys gig I went to in Glasgow in 2009, I passed out from being crushed in a mosh pit but I was a twig and got caught in a bad section. Just my opinion, I might be seen as an elitist, oh well, deal with it.Yes. But those are too few and too far between and brief conversations with prominent participants leave me wanting more - from what I've seen at least one major purveyor in each mosh pit doesn't even know what band is playing. I've been in some enjoyable, great mosh pits that left me feeling triumphantly battleworn for days after. I like it as an idea, but it should be perpetuated with respect and not just done forcibly out of habit or because you have nothing better to do. Mosh pits during Opeth (I don't like them anymore but this still happened years ago when I was a teenager) - WTF? Iron Maiden - Hallowed Be Thy Name is another fine example of when not to mosh, but people insist on doing it. We've also watched many moshing to songs which have almost no aggression whatsoever, like much of a Rotting Christ setlist (and yet no one moved an inch when "In The Sign Of Evil Existence" played and I was free to power my way to the front row). My wife grabbed a woman and berated her until the woman cried because she decided to push/throw another woman into a mosh pit. Having stood on the outside and observed more recently I find that there are many who perpetuate moshing non-stop and insist on dragging people into it who have no intention of doing it and/or should not be there. Having said that when I did mosh I was typically aware of the band's catalog and moshed at appropriate parts. My honest opinion is that while it can be fun it was more enjoyable when I was younger. New releases are exempt as long as the music still falls under the scope of metal music. All side/affiliated projects and solo works from R&R artists are subject to mod discretion. Cover songs of retired bands are also prohibited. This is not because we dislike or discourage listening to them, but in order to promote diversity and discovery of smaller and lesser known artists. This list can be found in full, along with an explanation for why we have it in the first place, on our Respite and Retirement Center Wiki Page. We have chosen to implement a list of certain popular bands that we vote upon as a community on a quarterly basis. Search the subreddit and see if they have not been posted within the last 7 days.
